The best Halloween surprise ever

Happy Halloween everyone!!!! I am almost to my 100th post.
That's crazy....

We spent this weekend at my Mom and Dad's. Michael went to a Giants game. I went to the MAC counter. My sister, Danielle and I brought the boys to Toys R Us for the first time. Blake was in Heaven. Logan didn't know what was going on.

Saturday night Laura and I and Michael and his friends all went out to dinner. Michael was already with his friends so Laura and I had to sneak out of my parents house. Every time I try to go anywhere without my kids Lo screams bloody murder and Blake repeats "I wanna go, Mama I wanna go, Can I go?" a million times. So before that could even start I asked Blake if he wanted to show Mema and Poppa his costume. Of course he was not going to miss an opportunity to dress up. So off they all shuffled into the bedroom with the costumes and Laura and I snuck out (First you sneak from your parents then your kids... it never ends).

We had a delicious dinner of tomato bacon ranch pizza and boneless buffalo wings. Then we went to Cheesecake Machismo and got brown sugar and cinnamon and caramel brownie cheesecake (sooo good!!)
But that is neither here nor there.... because meanwhile at Mema and Pop's....

My mom was trying to finagle two superheroes into their costumes with no help. I think she was getting annoyed that my father wasn't around but that is just an uneducated guess. So she finally walks out of the bedroom and to her Surprise sees this!!

POPPA AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Notice the wing on the top of his head!)

We have nothing to fear!!!!!!!!!!
2 Captain America's are here!!!!

Because we all need an up close of  Joel.... De.Light.Ed
One of the top 3 best Poppa moments of all time (or 3.5 years)

And of course an Instagram

A very tired Captain America

Pictures of Spider man to come later. He was sleeping when these were taken.

Things I realized today....

1) The only meal I have sat down for in 3 days is dinner. And during dinner I need to get Blake a napkin, Logan a drink, clean the spaghetti off the wall, help Blake go potty and so on and so on and so on.....

2) Why am I 28 years old and my skin is breaking out? Veryyyyy annoying. I'm going to blame it on the well water. Not the Ivory soap I have been washing my face with since the 9th grade.

3) While I was working today I listened to the entire Bon Iver CD for Emma forever ago. I'm not always right ( I'm usually right... but not always) but I was right about this CD. In the middle of working I swear I was the most calm and relaxed I have been in foreverrrrr. It was awesome. I do much better work when there is music on.

4) My first year at SUNY Plattsburgh I was a Greek Goddess for Halloween, my second year I was a cowgirl, my third year I was a baseball player and a bunny ( I went out a lot my 3rd year). This year I am being nothing. But Halloween is fun again because I get to go out with not 1 but 2 Superheroes. One of them had a parade at school today. Lets look shall we?

 Pretty Snow Princess

Look how much fun Logan is having!!!!

5) The new Iphone w/ personal assistant. My cousin Danielle got it and I asked her if she wanted to know where the closest Mcdonalds was all she would have to do is ask, and she said yes. And then I was like oh crap I only have the Iphone4, I would have to Google closest Mcdonalds to my location on my phone.
And before that I would have had to Google it on my computer and before that I would have had to call 411. Information if you will. And before that I would have had to check the phonebook. The what?? The phonebook. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh technology.

6) J-Lo singing and dancing in every commercial on TV. Just stop. Enough said about that I would say.

7) I have GOT to start taking better care of myself. Do you want to know how many glasses of water I have drank in the past 7 days??? Maybe 4. And thats stretccccchhhhhhhhhinnnnggg it. I'm not even drinking the daily amount of water I should be drinking in a week. The last time I exercised? Um I went for a run jog speed walk walk at a regular speed maybe once over the summer. Your body is your temple right?? Well I wouldn't put it that way but I would say that taking care of myself is obviously the best thing I cando to keep my body working at optimum speed. So I should probably start doing that. Now if I could just get off my ever so comfortable couch.

8) One last fly in the house. That f*$&%er is going down!

Tomorrow we have a Halloween parade to attend. My favorite parade has always been the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. But I'm pretty sure its not going to have anything on Blake's nursery school Halloween parade. You know pictures are coming. He is excited to wear his costume in public and has requested that I be a Ninja Turtle and Michael Iron Man. I'm hoping he won't notice when we are dressed as regular Michael and Ashley.

I told him he had to go to bed tonight and he sprinted around the toy room screaming and crying "BUT THIS PLACE IS A PIG STYYYYYYYYYYY, ITS A PIG STYYYYYYYY".

Anyway that is neither here nor there. I am almost to my 100th post. I think that constitutes another giveaway. So that should be coming.

I am going to have a post soon of all of the things in my house that are Pinterest or blog inspired. That should be fun right?

What we ate....

When Michael and I started dating I didn't cook anything.
I ate a plethora of english muffins and cereal varieties.
I never cooked in college (except eggs) and to be honest I had zero interest.
But now I am 28 years old, I am married to a man that enjoys a good meal and I am the mother of 2 boys who just may eat me out of house and home one day (I say maybe because right now neither of my kids eat much at all).
So the past year or so I have tried cooking here and there, usually Hungry Girl recipes.
One of the main issues with me trying to cook is the lack of ingredients.
So I have been trying to plan dinner for the entire week on Sunday.
I even bought a menu planner at Michael's.
So anyway this is what my menu looked like this week, and let me just say these were all easy.
I didn't mess up any of them.
And if I didn't mess them up, you guys are good to go.

Orange Chicken. I didn't take a picture of the meal but it was so good. Here is a picture of what it looked like from the website where I found it :The Pursuit of Happiness

It was good. And easy. Here is how you do it.

• boneless chicken breasts, chopped into small chunks (I would say 5 or 6 medium breasts)
• 1/3 cup flour
• olive oil
• 1/2 T salt
• 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
• 3 T ketchup
• 6 oz. frozen orange juice concentrate (thaw or throw it in the microwave for 45 seconds)
• 4 T brown sugar
In a bowl, mix the orange juice, brown sugar, vinegar, salt, and ketchup.
Pour the flour in a small bowl.
Cover the chicken breast chunks in flour and shake off the excess.
Pour a small amount of olive oil in a skillet and brown the flour-covered chicken.
The chicken doesn't need to be fully cooked since it's going in the crock pot.(I fully cooked mine)
After the chicken is done cooking, pour the pieces into the crock pot.
Then cover the chicken with your sauce mixture and give the pot a stir.
Cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 2-3.
Serve over rice and even add veggies if you want a healthier meal.
Next time I would probably add more brown sugar just to off set the citrus of the orange. But it was good and really easy. We ate it over rice and sauteed broccoli with garlic.

Baked ziti. I wish someone would have told me how REALLY REALLY easy this is. There is nothing to it. I found the recipe at allrecipes.com. Where I typed in easy baked ziti. I always type easy when looking on the Internet for anything I even think about cooking. I did take a picture of this one:

  • 1 (16 ounce) package ziti pasta

  • 24 ounces ricotta cheese

  • 1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese ( I didn't use that much... A pound of cheese is A LOT of cheese)

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 (32 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce

  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Directions
    1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain and rinse.
    2. In a medium bowl, mix ziti, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, egg and 1 1/2 cups spaghetti sauce.
    3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
    4. Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and spoon in ziti mixture. Top with remaining spaghetti sauce, followed by Parmesan cheese.
    5. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes; let stand for 15 minutes before serving.
Oh and I made my own garlic bread.... So domestic...Check these bad boys out

Honey BBQ chicken calzones. These were Sooooooooooooo easy and so so so good. They are so good that when I saw Michael eating the last one for lunch the next day I stopped what I was doing, looked him straight in the face and said very seriously "You Bastard". I really wanted it. The recipe is from Pillsbury.com:

1can Pillsbury® refrigerated classic pizza crust ( I used Great Value everything for this recipe)
1 1/3 cups refrigerated original barbecue sauce with shredded chicken (from 18-oz container) - (I boiled the chicken then covered it in honey BBQ sauce)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Cheddar cheese (2 oz)
1 Heat oven to 425°F. Lightly spray cookie sheet with cooking spray.
2 Unroll dough; place on cookie sheet. Starting at center, press out dough into 14x10-inch rectangle; cut into 4 (7x5-inch) rectangles. Spoon 1/3 cup chicken mixture onto half of each rectangle, spreading to within 1/2 inch of edge. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons cheese over each.
3 Fold dough in half over filling; press edges firmly with fork to seal. Prick tops with fork.
4 Bake 9 to 12 minutes or until light brown.

I said F it in the A (excuse me I know that was inappropriate, but that is def how I felt)
Anyway we had a frozen pizza.

I did shake n bake pork chops, mashed potato's and homemade apple sauce.... Pork chops and apple sauce, I must have been channeling my inner Peter Brady. It was easy. Homemade apple sauce is so easy... Here is the recipe I used tonight

  • 4 apples - peeled, cored and chopped

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • (I also added a little brown sugar)

  • Directions:
In a saucepan, combine apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon. Cover, and cook over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are soft. Allow to cool, then mash with a fork or potato masher (I used my food processor)

I didn't take a picture... But it was good....

Everyone should try these and then come back and tell me how right I was about the good and easy part.

On a completely unrelated note, why don't you go listen to my new favorite song Bon Iver's Skinny Love.... I see this whole album in my near future.

Sometimes you just need something different.
    Happy Weekend <3

    I'm exhausted

I moved my clothes from the office closet to the guest room closet. Made the office closet my actual office (so Michael can bring his gym back inside for the winter). Cleaned the shit out of the guest room closet, moved all the winter coats that were in the guest room closet to the "broom closet" upstairs, cuhleannned the closet under the stairs, went through all our bills/pay stubs/random documents...

I'm sorry, am I boring you?? I am boring myself typing this. Snooze fest post. Basically I moved things around all day. Then I gave my kids a bath and took a shower. Got out of the shower and realized I didn't shave the bottom half of my left leg......... I do this entirely too often. hmmmm probably TMI.

Anyway, my apologies for wasting 2 minutes of your life with this post. Hopefully this picture will make up for the time wasted....

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh Blakey.... I love this little guy.
    Hand down pants and all.

Facebook... the one with no picture

    Let's talk about Facebook.

I love Facebook. I love it for so many reasons. I just tried to list them but I had no idea what to write. Because I love Facebook for the same reason as everyone else... I like to know what's going on with everyone. I like looking at pictures and seeing statuses and IMing with people.

What I don't love about Facebook? When it became a way to bash the shit out of people. Either in status updates or talking about people indirectly with other people on their Facebook walls or insulting people inadvertently. Especially people who I would consider to be adults. And people I would guess consider themselves to be adults.

Am I saying that I never talk about people. Um no. That's what people do. They talk. What I don't understand is why people cant just click on the bottom right corner find the person they want to talk to and then do it in private. Because then everyone else wouldn't see all the mean things your saying? Because then the person your talking about wouldn't see it and get their feelings hurt? I don't know its just so confusing. It reminds me of in high school when you would hear girls talking about you one table over in the library. And it stung. I remember my feelings being hurt really bad.

I also remember being the girl talking. And now looking back I'm so disgusted with that girl. It was really mean. It was being a bully. And that hurts my stomach. Why would anyone purposely make someone else feel bad? Why would I have done that?

I think a natural progression in life is to grow up, be more sensitive to other people's feelings, ask when you think someone is mad at you, confront people when they have hurt your feelings and be open to the reasons people give you when you do confront them. And I know it is so easy to sit here and type it. But it is hard. Really hard. Something I continue to struggle with.

Again I am not saying that I don't talk about people or that I am oblivious to the fact that people talk about me sometimes. People talk. Its the way the world works. I'm just saying I don't want to read people being mean to other people anymore. Facebook is a place to connect with people and build friendships. Not be blatantly rude and hurt people's feelings.

    freedom..... sorta

Yesterday I took a drive all by myself to my mom and dad's.
And I slept there all by myself. I didn't have to change a diaper or make a bottle for hours.
I thought I was going to sleep through the night uninterrupted until the dog needed to go out at 2AM.
But it was fine because I didn't have to change her diaper.
Can I tell you how necessary time alone is sometimes?
    Mom time via instagram anyone??
    Here we go!

    My drive down...

    The view from my car....

I have been loving scenery pictures lately.
Only when I take them tho.
    Ohhhh foliage.

The drive down was also delicious.
2 bags of sour gummy worms
and 20 ounces of Diet Mountain Dew

I know Mountain Dew is an acquired taste, and judge me if you must. But I love that stuff.
And 2/ $1 gummy worms.... yum.

What I listened to the WHOLE ride down. This CD makes me so happy.
I liked to listen to it as louddddddddddd as the Malibu would allow.

    oh hey crazy eye...
    awesome new hair cut... check.
I don't know how many inches I had cut off but it feels so light...

Can you guess what season starts for my dad tomorrow???
yes, he is keeping his bow in my son's crib.
Good thing I left Schmoopy home.

    Anyone know what this is?
This is what the Montessori school considers a playground.
I took this picture when I made a quick wrong turn.
I thought it was snap worthy.
I have a lot of opinions on Montessori schools but I will save them for another time.

No ride home would be complete without a pumpkin coffee....
    (and a blueberry cake donut)

And then I came home and saw this on my kitchen wall.

Truth be told I missed my guys....
Truth be told I needed that time off.....

Now enjoy these videos of my kids opening the presents my mom and dad sent down....

Ughhhhhhh I only have a video of Blake.
I thought I was making one of Logan opening his but apparently I was just holding the camera recording nothing.
    Now I am mad..
LoLo had the most unsatisfied look on his face when he was going through his presents.
    It was pretty funny...
    Well enjoy Blake's video

    How annoying is my voice?
    so. annoying.

    me and my black thumb
